So many anecdotes of days/nights/weekends out with Mr B , but this one sums him up for me ...
Our design practice had invited Tim and a handful of other clients to Paris for the weekend to watch England v France 6N rugby (A Welshman taking one for the team and yes I did support England).
As humble consultants our budget was limited so we planned to take our guests for a few drinks and a meal before the game. Nothing too flash. On arrival at the hotel Tim clocked that the Gullivers Travel team were also based in our hotel and were meeting and greeting their Full Hospitality guests In the lobby. Never one to miss an opportunity , he introduced himself to the unsuspecting lady in charge and within 10 minutes he had somehow charmed/blagged us a complimentary table for 10 in the 5* restaurant within the vaults Stade de France.
We arrived to enjoy some of the finest food , wine and hospitality Paris had to offer . To top it off, every guest was given a free raffle ticket for a prize draw - a bottle of champagne .
The restaurant was very plush and the French MC was comparing from an elevated stage , with multiple flat screen TVs set up around the room so you could see and hear him.
He drew out a ticket from the prize draw ballot box , and in French and invited the winner , Monsieur Michel Burns, up to the stage to collect his prize....
‘ Michel Burns ‘ he repeated twice .... and then as he was about to call for a third time , Monsieur Michel Burns burst onto the stage/TV screens, and with a flash of grey hair and a mischievous smile , he accepted his champagne.
After he finished a short interview with the MC and posed for photos with the hostesses , Michel Burns made his way back to his table , chanting ‘Allez Le Blanc’ , in a thick Bristolian accent All the way.
It was one of my life’s greatest pleasures to know Mr Tim Blythe AKA Monsieur Michel Burns. Rest in peace boyo and we will keep your memory alive with stories of your crazy antics. X
